Well......In Spring of 2005
a group in Eureka, KS were watching some folks back East tossing innocent pumpkins thousands of feet, using various contraptions.
They decided it looked like fun but, that growing pumpkins looked like to much work. Since hedgeapple trees grow like weeds
in these parts and would provide all the hedgeballs a guy could throw free of charge, they became our throwing object. Therefore,
the fall of 2005, a decision was made to establish the worlds first distance record for hedgeball chuckin! A large trebuchet
built by Glen Wilson and Dick Soule tossed one backwards 32 feet. They tweaked their sling and wound up winning their class
with a best chuck of 518 feet. By the end of the event the world record was set in the air cannon division by the team of
Kelly Vancil and Barney Kelly with a chuck of 2094 feet!
